Marta
Vincent
I was born and grew up in Upstate New York and moved to Illinois after I was married. My mother taught me to use her sewing machine when I was about 7 years old, and I have never stopped sewing since. I started with doll clothes; moved on to making my own modern clothing, and I dressed my sons when they were small. When My husband and I started Civil War reenacting in 1998, I transitioned into period sewing techniques.
I am the sole proprietor of Mrs. Vincent's Parasol Emporium, and as a part of that, I collect, study, repair and recover period parasols. I've had articles on parasols published in the Civil War Historian Magazine, and the Citizen's Companion. In my spare time, I am a seamstress as part of Originals by Kay where I specialize in children's clothing. I'm a partner in P. Palmer Dry Goods, a traveling Civil War Mercantile, and I host workshops in my home. I am also a member of the McHenry County Civil War Roundtable, and Treasurer of the Midwest Civil War Civilian Education, Inc.
